CONSVIENTIZATION REPORT AS A PART OF B.Ed CURRICULUM
REPORT ON CONSCIENTISATION PROGRAMME
CONSCIENTISATION
Conscientisation is a popular education and social concept developed by Brazilian educational theorist Paulo Freire. it includes taking action against the oppresive elements in one's life that are illuminated by understanding. it is the process of developing a critical awareness of one's social reality through reflection and action. Paulo Freire says that we all acquire social myths which have a dominent tendency, and so learning is a critical process which depends upon uncovering real problems and actual needs. In his 'Cultural Action for Freedom', defines conscientisation as a process in which men, not as recipients, but as knowing subjects, achieve a deepening awareness both of the socio-cultutral reality which shapes their lives and of their capacity to transform that reality. It is the process of liberation of the oppressed from the oppressing situation.
As a part of B.Ed curriculum, a conscientization class was taken to students of class 9 from the school Mayyanad HSS on the topic "AN AWARENESS ON PLASTIC POLLUTION". During this pandemic period, the class was conducted through online platform using the application Google Meet.
INTRODUCTION
Pollution is that situation which harmful to both animals and earth due to introduction of harmful and poisonous substances into the earth. Among the different types of pollution, plastic pollution is the more dangerous one to water bodies and earth. Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles in the earth's environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat and humans. Plastic- it is everywhere. Versatile, lightweight, durable and most of all, inexpensive. These attractive qualities of plastic makes it one of the most important thing in our life.
According to a study in February 2015, 8 million metric tons of plastic waste end up from land into the ocean. Despite the harrowing statistics, plastic continues to be used abundantly in our consumerist and commercial activities today. Thus I used this opportunity to raise an awareness on plastic pollution among the young children who are the pillers of the future world.
OBJECTIVES
