reflective journal on peer teaching and face to face teaching

                                      REFLECTIVE JOURNAL

                  A reflective journal is a place to write down your daily reflection entries. It can be something good or bad that has happened to you that you can self-reflect on and learn from past experiences. A reflective journal can help you to identify important learning events that had happened in your life. 

                   As a part of B.Ed curriculum we have to take 30 lesson plan. Due to this pandemic situation we are allowed to take 15 direct / online peer teaching classes and 15 online face to face teaching classes, so from January25, 2021 we started our peer teaching practice. There are 7days of direct peer teaching class and 7 days of online peer teaching. Peer teaching ends on February 8,2021. Then we started our online face to face teaching class from 9  February, 2021.

DIRECT PEER TEACHING – 1 st week reflection

        First we started our teaching practice with peer teaching, we started peer teaching on 25 January 2021 and there was a direct peer teaching class from 25th January to 2 nd March. It was my 2nd school internship programme. So I have to be more careful and selected some good topics for peer teaching practice. In the beginning I have some tension and starting trouble but I overcome it when days passed. And I think I got a good skill of explaining, introducing a lesson, stimulus response, probing questions, blackboard writing etc. My peers were Abhirami, Avani, Febina , Nowfiya, Sukama, Zigma they all observed  my class and gives me some suggestions to improve. I selected the topics like refraction, refraction in different media, total internal reflection, lens, method of representing atoms and molecules and chemcial equations. Peers suggested my strengths and weakness. I used chart, video presentation, activity cards, pictures, various objects for teaching as my aids.My strengths include good chart presentation, good explaining skill, good introduction skill, good presentation of activities and my activity cards are made attractive etc. My weakness include improve handwriting in blackboard, have little bit tension, and have to provide some more activities to students. I rectified my mistakes day by day and I keep improving in my teaching skills which was also one of my strengths.   

      First week peer teaching was direct and it was a wonderful experience. And it helped me to improve myself and make me aware of my mistakes and problems in teaching and able to correct it.

ONLINE PEER TEACHING – 2 nd week reflection

      Our peer teaching started from 25 th January and I completed my first week teaching practice successfully. It was direct teaching practice and then second week was online peer teaching and we have experienced online peer teaching in the first school internship programme. My peers were Abhirami, Avani , Febina, Nowfiya, Sukama and Zigma. After  observing my class they give me suggestions for improvement. I selected topics like hard water and soft water, properties of solutions, solutions, classification of mixtures, speed and velocity, matterdispersion, rainbow and sulphuric acid. Mostly I selected topics form 10 th standard. I used chart presentation, video, power point presentation, activity card pictures as teaching aids for my class. My strengths include I am improveming my teaching skills day by day, good black board skill, good explaining skill, good introduction of lesson , performed live experiments, good provision of activities etc make my class interesting. My weakness were try to provide variety of activities to students.

      Through peer teaching I am able to gain more feedbacks about my teaching and it help me in improving my skills.

FACE TO FACE TEACHING – 1 st week reflection

      Face to face online teaching practice started from 9th March 2021 and I got students of CFHS Kottiyam for my teaching practice. I am little bit tensed on hearing this. Because it’s a boy’s school and I am not sure they attend the class or not. But I am surprised in the first class that every one attend the class. And some of them responded well. I got 2 chapters for teaching them, they are 9 th standard students and I got acids, bases salts from chemistry and work, energy, power from physics to teach them. Started my class by teaching them the acids, bases salts and in the first day itself I showed them my innovative model. My innovative model was acid on different food items and I presented them and they listen to my class interestingly and helped me to get a clear idea about concept.  I took a model lesson plan on the topic alkali I selected 5 E model for teaching that topic. I provide Google form to students and ask them to fill it after the class it help me to asses the students.My strengths include good audible sound, good blackboard work, good presentation of video, good explaining skills, introduction of topic in good way, checked the pre requisite and home work of students etc. And my weakness were first day I have some net issues so students are not able to hear me clearly, but I explained the topic to them once again in the next class, then I have a little tension in the beginning of class.

     Peer teaching helped me in rectifying my weakness and now I am confident and am practicing to become a good teacher.

FACE TO FACE TEACHING – 2 nd week reflection

        In the first week itself I have finished my acids, bases, salt and one more portion is there. After that I started work, energy, power and I used some pictures to introduce the topics and checked the pre requisite and home work before starting the class. I  took  2 model lesson plans one from ph value (inquiry training model) and other from work (concept attainment model). Students actively responded to my questions. As usual I provided daily Google form through whatsapp group and they fill it. I used power points, pictures, activity cards, chart as teaching aids. My strengths include proper provision of activity cards, good explaining skills, good introduction of lesson, good blackboard work etc. My weakness are improved and I am keeping improving day by day.

      Overall the school internship phase 2 was a good experience, online teaching become familiar from the  3 rd semester. And peer teaching help me to improve my teaching skills more and I worked hard to improve my skills.
